The following story is a summary of a letter we received from The Voice of the Martyrs of a young girl in a Muslim nation who uses World Compassion Terry Law Ministries’ The Story of Jesus booklet, along with the Bible, to build her faith in Jesus and share the Gospel with Muslims.
The Story of Jesus was created as an evangelistic literature piece in 1991. It is a 16 page, fully illustrated booklet, written at a third grade reading level, that shares the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The story guides readers through a step-by-step process of how to become part of God’s family followed by a basic salvation prayer.
N is a wonderful woman who is full of love for her Muslim brothers and sisters, with a longing for them to know Jesus.

“My name is N. It started when I was 8 years old attending church with my aunt and uncle. I loved learning about Jesus. As time went on, I grew in my faith. I read many books including the Bible, but my favorite was The Story of Jesus booklet. I loved the pictures and how easy it was to learn about the miracles Jesus performed.
I became bold in my faith. When I was a little older, I found a job at a hospital where I worked and was taught to be a midwife. This was good for me to learn so I can raise my family. On my breaks, I would read The Story of Jesus booklet. When I did this other nurses and doctors would ask me what I was reading. They wanted to know what the pictures were. I told them I am reading about Jesus. Most would ask me, ’Who is this Jesus?’
'You know Him as Isa, The Son of God who has many miracles.' I would then give them a copy of The Story of Jesus Booklet or a Bible so they could learn more about Jesus. This got me into trouble. Many do not like Christianity. I was fired from my job and did not receive credit for my midwife training. This made me very sad.
Later I found another job at a hospital where it happened again. A girl tricked me by asking about Jesus and turned me in when I gave her a book. I didn’t mind getting fired this time. I enjoyed working for Jesus and to tell all people about Him.
I am 22 now, and in February of this year I found a job at another hospital. What happened here, no human should experience. I was doing my work faithfully and on breaks I would read my booklets or the Bible. One day a lady came wearing amulets all over her body. I asked her, “Why do you wear all of these amulets?” She said, “I am unable to have a baby boy, and was told that if I wear these amulets I will be healed and have a baby boy.”
I told her that was wrong. God doesn’t like this kind of work. I told her that Jesus is the only way to have miracles, and that He could help her. She did not know Jesus but wanted to learn more. I told her she must remove the amulets and I could pray with her for Jesus to heal her. I gave her reading material that her daughters could read to her because she was uneducated.
Days passed and this same lady came again to the hospital. While being seen by another nurse, she asked for me instead. The other nurse asked, ‘Why do you want to see her?’ ‘She gave me a book last time and I want to talk to her,’ she said. The hospital did not like this! In this hospital they teach Islam to children. I was warned about sharing about Jesus, but I knew I could not stop. I loved Jesus and loved sharing Him with people.
It was now Good Friday and there was a prayer meeting I wanted to attend. I asked the owner of the hospital if I could take off to go . She would not let me go to the meeting, but I asked again and was able to go. After the prayer meeting, I got a call from her telling me to come in because a night duty nurse was on leave. So I showered and returned at 6:30 that night. The hospital was quiet.
Later, one of the doctors called me to his room. It was not long before all the patients had been treated, and I was alone with him. He asked me, “N, why do you preach about Jesus? You know that we are running Daras, (a Muslim religious school where they teach Quran to the children) and we are teaching about Islam. And you are telling people about your religion. You know we can punish you and teach you a lesson for spreading Christianity in our hospital.”
I then told him I was doing nothing wrong. I am just praying and reading my Bible and when people need advice I teach them, and it is not sinful.
At that time the doctor’s friend came into the room, shut the door, and turned off the lights. This action scared me. He said, ‘we want to see how your God will protect you from us,’ and then both of them raped me the whole night. I was bleeding and weeping. After this shameful event I went home and told my aunt what had happened, and she told my pastor. They took me to the doctor and gave me medicines that I am still using. They are continuing to care for me.
I don’t regret anything I did. I know I must be strong because of stories my pastor told of the old testament and of another pastor that faced persecution and never stopped the kingdom’s work. Why should I stop my kingdom work? I am always encouraged from this verse. The LORD is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
I love to serve the Kingdom. So I will never stop my work even if I face persecution more than this.”
The preceding account is a true story, and we can take so much away from it. First, the inspiration that comes from the heroic courage this girl demonstrates in loving people by sharing Christ with them. It’s a reminder, especially for those of us who have freedom of religion, to share the Good News of Jesus with people. Secondly, these nations are difficult places to share Jesus, and in order to very clearly share Jesus with people, materials like The Story Of Jesus booklet are highly sought after.
Over 27 million copies have been shipped worldwide in over 52 languages. We ask that you partner with us in distributing more of these booklets to hostile countries where, in spite of danger, the Gospel must be preached!
