I was a doctor in Damascus.  As a surgeon, my job was to preserve life. Unfortunately, the war flooded our hospitals with innocent civilians.  Our ability to treat these patients diminished over time.  Doctors left as the war escalated.

Finally, I had to make the decision to take my family and leave the country to find a safe place to raise my children.  I miss Syria.  It saddens my heart to see it destroyed.  Maybe one day we can return home, but I would imagine it will be at least 20 years.
