It’s Time for the Church to Rise Up

The gift of food given in the name of Jesus Christ does so much more than just fill an empty stomach…

You can tell when you hear the testimony of Arman, a dear friend of ours. Arman, the father of 6 children, left Syria for what he thought would be 3 weeks. It has turned into 3 years as the Syrian Civil War rages on.

Income has been scarce as Arman’s son has been the only one in the family able to find work. The work he has found, however, only brings in about $5 (£3.50) a day. In their desperate situation, World Compassion had the opportunity to provide food and resources to Arman and his family.

Arman told us “World Compassion has been giving us food from the beginning. They are the only organization who has given us relief…we need this.”

Due to the resources we have been giving Arman, we have also received an open door to share the Gospel of Jesus with him and his family.

Arman continued saying: “I had been praying for 10 years. I found out when I came here that Christianity is better than Islam – when World Compassion gave me a Bible in 2013. After 50 years I finally received this information. At the beginning I read the Old Testament. I loved it. Then I read the New Testament. I learned about the love of God and grace.”

In the past 4 years, we have equipped the local church in Iraq to serve thousands of refugees. We’ve partnered with donors and Christian ministries to provide aid, medical care, and of course prayer.

As believers, we must continually stand with the church in hostile nations. There are thousands of people, just like Arman, who are simply waiting to be reached with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

For a donation of $25 (£18), you can help provide food to a refugee for a month. You could also help an entire family for $100 (£72) or even 10 families for $1,000 (£720). Ultimately, this donation of food can create an open door for sharing the Gospel.

We are compelled at World Compassion to stand up against the injustice of displacement and poverty and be a demonstration of the love of God to those who are lost and alone.

As our partner pastor in Iraq said so well, “It’s time for the church to rise up and say, ‘Here I am. I can do something for you,’ – to be a family for those who lost their families.”

Please take the time to pray and ask God how He is calling you to share during this humanitarian crisis. Every gift counts – so just follow the Holy Spirit’s leading as you give. God Bless.
